What is Co-location?

Co-location is a service provided by a number of datacenters, wherein you ship a dedicated web server to their facility, where it will be "co-located" and managed remotely by you, the owner. Colocation is a perfect, cost efficient hosting option for those who already own web hosting hardware or can afford the initial investment. Once your server has been colocated, you pay for only the storage space (also known as "rack space") your machine requires and the monthly bandwidth your server consumes. The facility where your web server is located will provide you with constant internet access and DNS services to get your server online. As the owner of a colocated machine, you'll be responsible for all hardware failures and replacements that need to be made.
