Getting Started With Your Account

Setting Up Your Domain

To have your domain (http://www.your-domain.com) work properly with your account you first need to have your DNS company point to our name servers.

Note: This does not ally to New Doman names that were purchased when you purchased your account. We will set this up, automatically, by us.

If you woul like us to change your dns information we will need to know the site that maintains your dns information, the username and password. You can e-mail us this information by clicking here.

If you want to change the information yourself to speed up the process the DNS information for our servers is:

Nameserver 1: DNS1.WINDOWSDNS.NET
Nameserver 2: DNS2.WINDOWSDNS.NET

This process can take anywhere from 18 to 72 hours for your domain name to point to our servers.

Accessing Your Websites Files

There are two basic ways to access and edit files on your site:

The First is to access your files through the Flie Manager supplied by the Helm Control Panel. You can see how to do this in the Article: Helm > Using the File Manager.

The Second is to use an FTP client. There is FTP Client Included with Windows 2000/XP. Another free FTP client is WS_FTP LE. You can download WS_FTP LE Here. More Free FTP clients & A good detailed inroduction to FTP can be found Here: http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/ftpnew-user.htm. Regardless of how you connect you will need to fill in some or all of the following settings:

The following are examples of the settings for FTP access to your root directory. this is a default FTP accout that we setup for upon creation of your account. You can Add/Modify/Delete FTP accounts through Helm Control Panel. You can see how to do this in the Article: Helm > Adding / Modifying & Deleteing FTP accounts.
Host Address:
Your-Domain-name.com or ftp.Your-Domain-name.com
Username:
Your-Domain-Name.com
Password:
Your assigned password sent in your account details e-mail
Port:
21
Host Type:
Auto Detect
Good Note: Files are read from folder/directories in the following order:
  • default.htm
  • default.asp
  • index.htm
  • default.aspx
  • index.php
  • default.php
  • index.asp
  • index.aspx
  • default.html
  • index.html

This means that if you have all of these files in your root folder the URL: http://www.Your-Domain-Name.com will point to default.htm first. If default.htm did not exist then it would point to default.asp. This aplies to all sub directories such as the URL: http://www.Your-Domain-Name.com/MySubDirectory/

When you access your root directory via ftp you will see a directory like the one shown in Img1. The following is a description of these 3 directories

db - this is were you will upload your databse files such as access, csv & excel databeses. Note: MySql files are not stored here. There is more informaion in the article: Databases> Setting up a database.

Logs - This directory contains your Raw Log Files. This directory should only be read from; Not written to.

wwwroot - This is where you will store all of you web site files. Img2 shows the contents of the wwwroot directory.
